About me

Hello! I’m Jess and I’m from near London, England.

I currently work in London in the magazine industry. Before you think ‘that’s cool’, let me elaborate: No, no, I don’t work on the editorial of cool mags like Vogue, I work in the less glamorous trade marketing and distribution (woop). I like words and language; and I love writing, but I’m also dyslexic. Yes, I’m that hypocritical grammar Nazi that can’t actually spell the word exercise without spell check. And I even sometimes, when I’m having a moment (and I hate myself when I do it) use the wrong your. A travesty, I know. It’s all pretty ironic.

It’s a hard word, okay.

I’ve caught the travel bug, and I completely blame my mum. While most people’s summer holidays consisted of two weeks at a beach resort, mine consisted of overland driving and camping in rural Africa, trekking the Inca Trail, and kayaking down the Ardèche. Of course, I know I’ve been incredibly lucky to go to these amazing places. Every time I visit somewhere new, it leaves me wanting to see more. It’s becoming quite a problem.

I’ve always kept a travel journal to document everything from accidentally booking a hotel on the wrong island to scarring myself on pizza. Something I religiously write in every day that I’m away. At the moment, mine’s a really elegant one with Micky Mouse promoting farming. It was the only one I could find with lined paper. Although I feel it’s often easier to hand-write things, I thought it was about time to update it to the 21st century.. so here it is, a blog. I don’t really know what I’m doing, but I’m just going to write and roll with it.
